In 1692 a huge wave of witchcraftover took Salem Village.
Chidren and women were the main suspects of witchcraft
Women suspected of witchcraft are torchured and executed of witchcraft
Over thousands of women were executed for the eccusion of witchcraft.
Witchcraft started when men wanted to be more impowered so they made a
goddess seem horrid and wicked.
Febuary, Sarah Good, Sarah Osburn, and Tituba are accused of witchcraft.
March 21st. Martha Corey is accused of witchcraft and is sent to jail.
March 24th. Nurse and Good's four-year-old daughter are sent to jail for
the accusion of witchcraft.
People are now turning on each other so they can save their own hides.
May another thirty-nine people are arrested for witchcraft.
May 10th, Sarah Osburndies in jail.
June 10th, Bishop is hanged on the gallows hill.
with this famus quote''you are a liar''she told him,''I am no more
a witch than you are a wizard,and if you must take my life God
will give you blood to drink.''
September 16th, Giles Corey is sentenced to death.After his death a ballad was writen
Giles Cory was a wizard strong,
A stubburn wretch was he,
And fit was he to hang on high
Upon the locust tree.
So when before the maistrates
For trail he did come,
He would no true confession make
But was completely dumb.
''Giles Cory,'' said the maistrate,
''What have thou here to plead
To these who now accuse thy soul
of crimes and horrid deed?''
Giles Cory-he said not a word,
No single word spoke he.
''Giles Cory,'' said the maistrate,
''We'll press it out of thee.''
They got them then a heavy beam,
They laid it on his breast.
They loaded it with heavy stones,
And hard upon him pressed.
''More weight,'' now said this wretched man,
''More weight,'' agian he cried,
And he did no confession make
But wickedly he died
Dame Cory lived but three days more,
But three days more lived she,
For she was hanged at Gallows Hill
Upon the locust tree.

Snake Facts:
In greek mythology the messanger god Hermes carried a staff,
this staff had 2 snakes coiled around it.
A ancient healer Asclepius, carried a staff with only one snake
wound around it. Many people in ancient greece believed that shaumans (healers)
learned to make medicine from wild plants by whatching snakes heal themselves.
Corn snakes grow up to 3 to 5 feet, and are great for pets; they are
gentle and are less expensive.
King snakes grow to be as long as 6 feet, these are also great snakes to
start out with but if want to have more than one snake have them in diffrent tanks
because king snakes like to eat other snakes.
Ball pythons grow up to 5 feet, and they require specailized care.

Women and the Civil War
Sarah Rosetta Wakeman disguised herself as a man in the union army
under the name Lyons Wakeman and was the first women to fight in war.
During the civil war many women wanted to help with the war so they would donate
millions of dollars for weapons and medicine.
Many men thought it wrong for a women to see and help with bathing
and clothing men so women would fight hard to do what they could
Women would become spies, scouts, guides,and smugglers anything,
anything to help with the war.
Sarah Emma Edmond's disguised as a man fought in many battles
and even when no one suspected she was a women her nickname was "our women"
Lucy Ann Cox Fought 4 years until the war ended. When she died in 1891
the buried her in the Fredricksburg Confederate Cemetery with full military honors.
Kady Brownell 18 years old and married to Robert Brownell. Her husband was injured so she took his place in the last Civil War battle.
Annie Etheridge 16 years old served in the regiment's vivandiere she would go through
horrid things and still come out alive with a man wounded at her side.
Vivandiere is a middle and upper-class society that would wear an outfight suit for a women but good for battle
Mary Tepe was married to a soldier and so to support herself she cooked and did sewing for men.
This union song was composed in1861 "the volunteer's wife to her husband"

now that her husband is in war she took up the duties of the man and wife of the house.
Mary Eleanor McCoy made a speech to women about the letters they write to there husbands
"write encouraging letters, never write in a desponding tone. Wife tell your husband how nicely
you are getting along, if you have troubles keep them to yourself."
Atlantic Monthly gave female readers more advice on what to tell there husbands
"Be unwearying in details of the little interests of home. Fill your letters with kittens and canaries, with baby's shoes, and johnny's sled, the courtings, the sleigh-rides, and the singing school. Bring out the good points of the world in sharp relief."
Diana Phillips writes to her husband Marshall in 1862
